This is one of the many scorpion species likely to be found in Arizona's sycamore canyon woodlands and adjacent habitats. At night they emerge from beneath rocks or dead wood to hunt for nocturnal insect prey. In the pitch dark the dark brown and tan is obscured by the leaves and soil making them virtually impossible to see. However, entomologists have discovered that the exoskeleton fluoresces when exposed to ultraviolet light. Hand held uv lights can be used to locate this and other scorpion species.
