Leaf-footed Bugs can emit some very pungent, unpleasant chemicals when disturbed. This gives them some protection as they feed on developing buds, flowers and fruits. To feed they must insert their straw-like mouth parts deep into the plant tissue. This makes the potent defense a must because the bug requires a few vital seconds to withdraw in the face of danger.
