Nabokov's Satyr is a denizen of open woodlands in and adjacent to sycamore canyons in the southern half of Arizona. Unlike most butterflies they almost never visit flowers and because of their earth tone colors they conceal themselves very effectively when they alight. The larvae (caterpillars) feed on grasses in the Muhlenbergia genus. They fly from May through October.

Nymphalidae -- Brush-footed Butterfly Family
Satyrinae -- Wood Nymph Sub-family
