LEAVES: The roughly triangular leaves are paired at each node and more or less jointed arount the stem.

FLOWERS: This plant is a composite with 10 to 20 reddish-pink ray flowers and several yellow disc flowers. The heads are 3 cm or more in diameter.

ANNUAL: Seeds germinate in spring or early summer depending on arrival of rains; one or a few branching stems reach a maximum of 1.5 meters tall.

RANGE: This plant in Arizona requires mostly deeper soil in the canyon bottoms and is found in southeastern Arizona canyons.

FRUIT: Each of the florets in the head gives rise to a single seed.
