LEAVES: The leaves are ovate with wavy margins. The crushed foliage emits a powerful odor like its desert relative, Odora.

RANGE: In Arizona this plant is restricted to moist areas in lower canyons of southeastern Arizona. Found in similar habitats along the border from Texas to California.

ANNUAL or PERENNIAL: Above ground portions are entirely herbaceous without woody stems - rarely more than 70 cm tall.

FLOWERS: There are no ray florets and the disc florets are mostly concealed by the phyllaries. At blooming the purple-tinged tips may show.
