Jones Spiderflower, Peritoma jonesii, © by Michael Plagens HERB: Annual plant usually growing with onset of summer rains. May reach 1½ m tall with several flexible stems.

FLOWERS: Groups of flowers are bright yellow and very conspicuous on account of the long, showy stamens.

LEAVES: Leaves are compound with three to seven leaflets with toothed margins.

RANGE: Distributed in partially shady woodlands where there is deep soil and a good supply of subsurface water. Very similar to Yellow Spider Flower, Peritoma lutea; one or both of these species are found in many of Arizona's shady sycamore canyons.

FRUIT: Turgid, elongate capsules with numerous seeds.

UNARMED. Without thorns.
