Observed along Sycamore Creek in the western slopes of the Mazatzal Mts., Maricopa Co., Arizona. 16 May 2010.

LEAVES: There are many similar species of rush but the compressed iris-like leaves of this species are distinctive.

PERENNIAL HERB: Plants are mostly less than 1 meter in height. A number of closely grouped ascending stems.

FLOWERS: Small green flowers do not have showy petals but the tips of the green bracts are reddish.

RANGE: Grows in moist shady spots within sycamore canyon from California to New Mexico.

FRUIT: Three small, hard seeds develope from each floret.

UNARMED.
