PERENNIAL GRASS: Conspicuous when in flower. Many stems typically tufted together in clump. Plants are up to one meter in height.

RANGE: A native grass throughout much of western North America from Canada to Mexico. Grows on terraces adjacent to riparian canyon mostly above 1000m elevation.

FRUIT: Florets with very long wiry awns on the lemmas.
