The raucus call of Cassin's Kingbirds from the highest perches in the trees above watered canyons in southern Arizona is a sure sign of summer. As flycatchers they maintain an alert, upright posture for hunting flying insects. Their tails lack the white outer feathers of the similar-looking Western Kingbird.
