This male Violet-crowned Hummingbird was observed near Sonoita, Sta. Cruz Co. July 2010.

These uncommon, but very distinctive hummingbirds, are now more common than during prior years. They can be found in sycamore and cottonwood-lined canyons along the Arizona-Mexico border from May through September. Many eco-friendly resorts and lodges put out feeders making it easy to see many hummingbird species.
