This plant, which can be found naturally in just a few moist canyons within the Sonoran Desert, has been extensively planted as an ornamental shrub in Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. With water and fertilizer plants often reach two to three meters in height. The large, tubular yellow flowers are used by the Sonoran Bumble Bee, Bombus sonorus, as well as the Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa californica.
