Short, deltoid shaped leaves are very rough and feel like sandpaper! Whitish flowers with complex morphology in a spike at ends of twigs. Below flowers on the spikes there may be few to many dead and bleached pale leaves or leaf-like bracts attached. Found in deep sand along washes or near river flood plains in the Sonoran Desert.
