FLOWERS: Bright white rays surround the yellow disc florets to make a daisy usually less than 5 cm in diameter. Blooming mid to late spring in years with adequate rains. The single series of lance-shaped phyllaries have long hairs plus others that are tipped with sticky glands. These enclose the developing seeds in a protective barrier.

ANNUAL: Delicate spring annual with several erect stems reaching sometimes 0.5 meter.

LEAVES: Leaves are usually linear but may be slightly enlarged towards tip or have some lobes.

RANGE: More frequent in the Sonoran Desert at middle and higher elevations occuring especially on terraces adjacent to washes where sandy soils have accumulated. Also ranges in sandy soils throughout western North America.

FRUIT: Mature seeds have a series of flattened awns at the top.
