Found at mid elevations in Arizona, USA, from just above 1000 m up to 2000 m. The larvae develop in rotting tree stumps. The upper horn is borne on the pronotum of the thorax and the lower is affixed to the top of the head. Females lack large horns ... the males use them for grappling with other males at prime breeding sites. More Information: |
