Several species of brightly colored flat leaf beetles (f.
Chrysomelidae, s.f. Hispinae) are commonly found on Sonoran Desert
plants. The one shown above is black with red shoulder patches. The larvae,
like the adult beetles, are flattened with most being leaf miners ... i.e. they
tunnel between the top and bottom layers of a leaf. |
